Germination and survival excellent if there is not competing vegetation; flowers profusely in second year (Mabry and Mottl, personal observation).
Has moderate seed output and extensively creeping rhizomes, i.e high vegetative spread (Fernald 1950, Barkely 1986, Gleason and Cronquist 1991).
Limited to alluvial woods and other moist open areas (Eilers and Roosa 1994).
