Transplants in an Iowa field study had 94% survival after 7 years (Mottl et al. 2006), and 78% in a Michigan study after 7 years (DeJong et al. 2017).
Self-sows and can spread by seed once established (Mottle et al. 2006).
Vegetative spread low from a stout, thick rhizome (Fernald 1950,Barkely 1986, Gleason and Cronquist 1991, Runkel and Bull 2009), although rhizomes can be up to 6 inches long, supporting several clusters of stems (Sperka 1973).
