Notes

Experimental seed addition in a small field study resulted in establishment in 21-38% of plots after three years (Brudvig et al. 2011) (seeds were sown fresh).

Mature transplants added to a woodland degraded by cattle grazing in Wisconin were "healthy" in the six years that the plants were monitored, and with low mortality; the authors did not report whether they reproduced (Ellarson and Craven 1982).

Seed output low; rhizome elongate thick and fleshy, rate of rhizome growth 0.94 in/year (Fernald 1950, Whitford 1951), Runkel and Bull 2009).
