Transplants in a field study had 96% survival after 7 years; waterleaf self-sows extensively (Mottl et al. 2006), leading to rapid spread once introduced (Mabry, personal observation).

Mature plants transplanted in the field had 85-100% survival after two years (Golay et al.  2013, Altrichere et a. 2020), continued high survivial in year 3 (Altricher et al. 2020), self-sows, with recruitment of new individuals observed in year 2 (Cullina 2000, Golay et al. 2013).

Moderate seed output; rhizomatous (Barkely 1986, Gleason and Cronqist 1991), although one measure of spread was only 0.96 in/year (Whitford 1951).
