Transplants had 31% survival after seven years in a study converting lawn to forest (DeJong et al. 2017). Forms dense colonies due to extensive rhizomatous growth (Steyermark 1963, Mabry, personal observation).

High germination and survival in a greenhouse trial (Mabry and Mottl, personal observation); however, experimental seed addition in a small field study failed to produce seedlings (Brudvig et al. 2011).
